Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising is one of the fastest methods of driving sales for your business. It is form of search engine advertising where the advertiser only pays when a user actually clicks on an ad to visit the advertiser’s web site. The prospective advertisers bid on keywords they predict their target market will use as search terms when looking for a product or service the advertiser has to offer.
When a user types a keyphrase query which matches within the advertiser’s keyword list, the advertiser’s ad is displayed (sponsored link/sponsored ads). You can setup a text-based ad to appear anytime a user types in a specific keyword phrase. You are only charged when someone actually clicks on your ad.
Content sites either charge a flat rate per click (the advertiser and publisher agree upon a fixed amount that will be paid for each click) or their rate is based on a bidding system (the advertiser participates in a private auction hosted by a publisher/advertising network). Flat rate is most common.
History
The concept of PPC advertising was developed by Idealab and Bill Gross (the founder of GOto.com). The concept was presented by Jerry Brewer at the TED Conference in 1998 which is where it really took off.

Voiceover is a production technique where a non-diegetic voice is used in a radio, television, film, theatre or other presentation.
The commercial use of voiceover in advertising has been popular since the beginning of radio broadcasting. In the early years, before effective sound recording and mixing, announcements were produced “live” and at-once in a studio with the entire cast, crew and, usually, orchestra.
More recent technological developments in recording and editing have transformed this process. The use of computers has made editing operations faster and easier to execute with software, and the use of hard-drives for storage has made recording cheaper. Today, the process of making a recording has become both more complicated, and yet easier to perform.
Both male and females can create voiceovers and often a specific gender and age bracket is chosen to promote a particular product to appeal to a certain target market (e.g. a company selling baby cloths would probably choose a woman with a caring motherly voice for voiceover advertising for their company).

Video is a great quick and effective way in which to attract people’s attention and convey your message. Video has a unique ability to ‘bring a message to life’. That no other media has.
Advantages of online video production
Publishing video online is also much more cost effective. Producing video on a DVD can cost up to $3 per view. However, online video eliminates this excess cost and enables for many more people to view your video.
Online video is also a great way to market your company. Video files can be distributed on video social media sites such as Youtube, Metacafe, Google Video, Vimeo etc. In addition this also increases google rankings.
Limitations of online video production
The biggest limitation with online video production has been bandwidth and speed. Dial up internet access has very slow limited downloads and struggles to run large video files. Thankfully this is becoming less and less of an issue. There has been a major shift in the market and most computers now have a broadband internet connection which is much faster and can manage large video files a lot better. Also, there have been a number of recent developments in video compression file formats which enable video files to be compressed to a much smaller size without losing too much quality.
Applications
Online video production can be used in many different applications within your website such as:
- Product Demonstrations videos
- Highlight product/services features and benefits
- Testimonials
- Marketing videos
